“The present building is the result an important Architectural Competition in 1936 and many prominent architects throughout the country took part Mr R.Norman MacKellar, F.R.I.B.A. acted as judge. The design submitted by Messrs. C.B.Perason & Son of Lancaster were placed first and they were commissioned
The tender for the building contract was won by Messrs. T.Lowe & Son Ltd of Burton-on-Trent and they agreed to carry out work within eighteen months.
These developments were made possible by the fundraising efforts made throughout the local community.”
